Science vs

Steins;Gate

At one point near the climax of Steins;Gate, Suzuha shoots open a door with a silenced handgun. (At two points? Meh, time travel.)

This is a common trope in action and crime fiction, but it’s actually not that easy in real life. Shooting at a door lock could cause the bullet to ricochet, shrapnel to fly back at you, or even damage the lock enough that it only jams the door even more.

It can be done in some cases with larger ammunition (though it’s still dangerous) and with special “breaching” ammunition designed for that purpose.
